Make Crock Pot Roast Beef

Crock pot meals are the best meals you can make. They may take a long time, but the prep time is very minimal. A crock pot roast beef will be much more tender than one baked in the oven, especially if you use a cheaper cut of beef.

Instructions

Make Crock Pot Roast Beef

1. Turn your crock pot on to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Slice the bacon into thirds. Cook the bacon in the crock pot until the fat is translucent.

2. Add the roast. Season the roast with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and just a touch of cayenne pepper. Cook the roast until it is brown on both sides (about 20 minutes each side).

3. Add about 8 cups of water. Let the beef simmer in the water for six hours. If it starts to boil, you can turn down the temperature to about 300 degrees Fahrenheit. If the water evaporates more than two inches, add a bit of water.

4. If you want a thicker gravy, scoop out about 1/2 cup of the broth and place it into a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon cornstarch to the bowl and whip until there are no lumps. While stirring the crock pot broth, add the cornstarch mixture to the ingredients in the crock pot.

5. Wash the potatoes, carrots and onions. Add in the potatoes skin-on. Depending on the size, you can either leave them whole or cut them in half. Cut the carrots into thirds and add the carrots. Peel and cut the onions into six pie shaped pieces. Add the onions.

6. If you added the cornstarch, turn the temperature up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Let the broth in the crock pot come to a boil. Boil for 10 minutes. Turn the temperature back down to about 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Let simmer for one and a half to two hours. Vegetables should be soft when pricked with a fork.
