Nothing beats refrigeration for cooling down drinks, but sometimes you want to hurry the cooling process. Other times, frozen drinks like slushes or frozen margaritas hit the spot. Sure, you can use a blender to crush ice, if you have one. You can also use salt and ice to make frozen drinks by following these steps.
Instructions
1. Mix the drink you want. Fruit drinks make great frozen drinks. Pour into a clean one-pound coffee can or other container of the approximate size with a lid.
2. Place the one-pound coffee can into a three-pound coffee can. Put ice between the inner and outer cans, filling to the top. Sprinkle two to three tablespoons of table salt or rock salt around the top of the ice.
3. Wait ten minutes. When salt is applied to ice, it creates a brine solution with a low freezing point. The mixtures drops in temperature until it matches the outside temperature, usually the temperature of your freezer.
4. Take out the drink out and pour into a glass. Now you have an iced drink.
5. Cool down a canned drink in a hurry by putting the can in a bowl. Cover with ice and sprinkle salt over the top. Stick in the freezer for ten minutes, and you'll have an icy drink in no time.
6. Achieve a similar frozen-like consistency with freezer bags. Place the drink in the smaller bag and seal. Put the smaller bag in the larger freezer bag along with ice and salt. Seal the larger bag and wait five or ten minutes.
