Oat Bran To Cereal

Oat bran is known for its extremely high soluble fiber content. Soluble fiber lowers cholesterol and maintains blood glucose levels. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration states that "a diet high in soluble fiber from whole oats and low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease". Consuming a half cup of oat bran daily will significantly lower cholesterol, according to the Web site of Leslie Beck, a registered dietitian. Oat bran can be added to many everyday foods, including cereal.

Instructions

1. Purchase oat bran from any major supermarket.

2. Store the oat bran in a cool, dark place. To keep it fresh longer, store it in the freezer. Oat bran can be used directly from the freezer without thawing.

3. Boost its nutty flavor by toasting the oat bran in the oven for five minutes at 375 degrees. This step is optional, as oat bran can be used without being cooked.

4. Place the cereal in a bowl. Add the oat bran and mix the two together.

5. Pour milk over the cereal and enjoy.
