Season Popcorn For The Microwave

Pop your own seasoned popcorn in the microwave.

Microwave popcorn is easy to make, but it comes with a host of chemicals, including perfluorooctanoic--which the Environmental Protection Agency has declared a likely carcinogen--and diacetyl--which causes respiratory illness in microwave popcorn factory workers. Naturally, it's better to pop your own, but using the stove can be such a mess. Instead, you can season your own popcorn and pop it right in your microwave.

Instructions

1. Mix the popcorn, oil and seasonings in a medium sized bowl. You can buy pre-made popcorn seasonings in your grocery store, or you can simply use flavors around your home, such as basil or parmesan cheese. Toss so that all of the kernels are coated with the oil and seasonings.

2. Put the popcorn in the paper bag. The bag should be the small size, typically used for bag lunches.

3. Fold the top of the popcorn bag over twice. This will ensure that it stays closed while popping.

4. Place the popcorn in the microwave for two minutes at a high setting. Stay nearby and listen for the popping of the kernels. If popping stops before the two minutes are up, stop the microwave and take it out.

5. Pour the popped popcorn into a medium sized bowl. Enjoy your treat.
