Homemade Croutons

Add croutons to a bowl of soup.

Croutons provide your soups, salads and other dishes with a crunchy texture. They also add flavor to your recipes. Making them at home allows you to experiment with different types of bread. From tangy rye and pumpernickel to smooth white and wheat breads, the flavors of your croutons will vary depending on what you use. You can even get creative and mix different types of bread for your recipes. A straightforward process to complete, making croutons is a cost-effective way to enhance your dining experiences.

Instructions

1. Cut bread into cubes to make croutons.

Slice and dice the loaf of bread into cubes measuring about 1 inch by 1 inch.

2. Spread the cubes out over a flat cookie sheet.

3. Coat the cubes of bread with nonstick cooking spray or canola oil spray.

4. Place the cookie sheet into your oven set at 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

5. Bake the croutons for approximately 25 minutes.

6. Remove the croutons from the oven and let them sit for two days on the cookie sheet. Keep them in a cool, dry place. Once they are adequately dried, store them in a zipper bag or other airtight container.
