Make Chocolate Peppermint Bark

Anyone who enjoys chocolate and peppermint loves those peppermint bark snacks, but they are so expensive to buy in your local stores, so why no create your own? It is a very simple process and fun as well. These make wonderful snacks for a special gathering, but also make wonderful seasonal gifts for the host or a hard-to-buy-for person.

Instructions

1. Place the water in the bottom of the double boiler and get it boiling on the stove. Open the packages of chocolate melts, so they are easy to pour into the double boiler when it is time. Take a cookie sheet; cover it with the tin foil or parchment paper and set aside

2. Open the package of mints or candy canes, open the individually wrapped candies if needed, and dump them into your large heavy bag or your food processor. Use the food processor or hammer to break the candy into tiny pieces and set it aside.

3. Watch for the water to begin boiling, add the top of the double boiler and pour in the milk chocolate melts. The milk chocolate melts will melt quickly will change to a shiny color as they melt. Leave them in the double boiler until they are completely melted.

4. Pour the melted chocolate into the prepared cookie sheet, using the spatula to first scrape the top of the double boiler free of milk chocolate and then to smooth it around cookie sheet. Rinse out the top of the double boiler with hot water to remove the brown chocolate and use a clean dishtowel to dry it thoroughly.

5. Pour the white chocolate melts into the top of the double boiler and melt them down until they are melted. Pour this on top of the chocolate, which is in the cookie sheet, using the spatula to spread the white chocolate around. Sprinkle the small mint pieces around of the chocolate and allow setting for a few hours until it is hard. Break into small pieces and enjoy or use as Christmas gifts.
