Scary Finger Foods

Frighten people with finger foods that look like bugs, guts and other gross items.

Finger foods become frightfully tasty when you add a bit of ingenuity to the food creation process. You can incorporate images of ghosts, insects, slime, goo or all of the above into your finger foods. Get ready to treat your friends, family and co-workers to finger foods such as ghost sandwiches, spider-infested pizzas and gutsy brain food.

Haunting Figures

Use white and dark breads for sandwiches with a light and dark side.

Bread becomes the perfect medium for ghostly sandwiches. Use a cookie cutter, or cut the shape of a ghost out of paper and use the paper as your guide for cutting slices of bread into ghost shapes. Use one slice of white bread and one slice of pumpernickel bread to create a ghost with a "dark side." To haunt guests with a sweeter treat, buy frozen bananas dipped in white chocolate, or make them yourself, adding spooky faces to each banana ghost by using black frosting.

Bug Out Your Guests

Make spiders by carving needed parts from black olives.

English muffin halves become the base for a spider-web pizza. Fashion mozzarella cheese into the shape of a spider's web on each muffin half, and top it with a spider made from black olives. Find simple recipes for fried mashed potato balls, and turn the fried potato balls into bugs by adding hard bread sticks for legs and diced vegetables for the faces. Layer round slices of cucumber to make a caterpillar shape and use a tomato slice for the head. Make antennas out of cucumber peels or carrot shreds, and stick them to your caterpillar with cream cheese.

Gutsy Finger Foods

Squirts of ketchup give the appearance of splattered blood on finger foods.

Turn hot dogs into an intestinal delight by slicing each one into four slices lengthwise prior to cooking them. Once they have cooked, place a few slices on each hot dog bun, top the meat with slivered onions and squirt ketchup or barbecue sauce over the hot dogs and onions until they resemble a bloody mess of intestines. For further fun, find a container shaped like a skull. Carve ridges into a flavored cheese ball to make it look like a brain, and place it into the skull container and serve crackers on the side.

A Time for Slime

Blood-red salsa and tortilla chips add flavor and fright to your finger food spread.

Make jiggling, festering green guts by preparing a pan of green gelatin squares. Ooze whipped topping over them, and splatter on red frosting to resemble bloody pus. Add a gummy worm for good measure. Add to the gross factor with a diaper do-over. Completely cover and seal an unused disposable diaper with clear plastic wrap. Do your best to hide the wrap job to retain the correct visual effect. Place the diaper in a serving bowl, and add spinach dip so the diaper appears to have served its duty. Serve with tortilla chips or fried tortilla strips. Add a bowl of blood-red salsa as an alternate dip.
