Make A Car With Food Crafts

Transform a plain hot dog into a race car with edible accessories.

While many parents may encourage their children not to play with their food, an edible car just begs to be played with. Serve a fun car-shaped meal at a racing-themed birthday party or as a special surprise for a young car enthusiast. Consider allowing children to assemble the cars themselves to add to the fun and ensure that everyone is happy with the ingredients in their custom car.

Instructions

Hot Dog Cars

1. Place a cooked hot dog into a hot dog bun, and set it in the center of a plate.

2. Push a toothpick through the front end of the hot dog, and attach an olive to each end of the toothpick to create the front wheels of your car. Repeat this process to add back wheels to the car.

3. Cut a slice of processed cheese in half diagonally, and arrange one triangle of cheese on the front of the hot dog to represent the hood of the car and the second triangle on the back to represent the trunk of the car.

4. Place a half circle slice of radish on the hot dog, just behind the front cheese slice, to serve as a steering wheel for your hot dog car.

5. Add racing stripes or numbers to your hot dog car with ketchup and mustard.

Car Cookies

6. Break a store-bought graham cracker into four rectangles along the lines on the graham cracker.

7. Turn each rectangle so that the longer sides are horizontal, and trim away the top corners of each graham cracker with a knife.

8. Frost the graham crackers with frosting tinted to the desired shade of your car cookie.

9. Press two round sandwich cookies into the frosting at the bottom edge of each graham cracker to add wheels to your car cookies.

10. Decorate the car cookies with assorted candies or additional frosting.
