Types Of Berry Sauces For Pancakes

Pancakes are breakfast food made by frying batter. People often top them with butter and a sweet sauce, typically maple syrup. They also add berries into the batter of pancakes or put them in a sauce on top of them because the sweetness of the berries counteracts the savory taste of pancakes. There are five berries that traditionally make it into the sauces of pancakes.

Blueberry Sauce

Blueberries are small, sweet and sour berries that are common in breakfast items. They are good for lowering cholesterol and preventing urinary tract infections. This makes blueberries a healthy and complementary berry for pancakes sauce.

Raspberry Sauce

Raspberries are sweet when ripe, small red, black or yellow berries. They have soluble fibers that can assist in lowering cholesterol. They are also high in fiber. Half a pound to a pound of raspberries fulfills daily recommended fiber intake.

Strawberry Sauce

Strawberries are red berries that are sweet when ripe. They have more vitamin C than oranges and pineapple -- more than 94 mg per cup. They make a suitable pancake sauce, but cooks rarely place them in the pancakes themselves.

Cherry Sauce

Cherries are sweet, red berries that have pits, or seeds. Cherries contain antioxidants that help maintain good health. They also contain melatonin, which aids in regular sleep patterns.
