Seal Homemade Vinegar Bottles

Filling homemade vinegar bottles is a pleasurable experience. However, sealing them can be a challenge. But with the right equipment and a bit of direction, even the most novice of bottlers can successfully seal a homemade vinegar bottle.

Instructions

1. Measure the diameter of the opening of your vinegar bottle.

2. Mark the dimensions of the opening onto a medium-sized piece of cork.

3. Cut out a cork stopper from the piece of cork that is 2-inches high and a hair larger than the diameter of the opening of the bottle.

4. Trim the edges of the cork stopper with a utility knife or a vegetable peeler so that it is tapered. The top should be 1/4-inch larger than the bottom.

5. Place the cork stopper into the opening of the bottle. Make sure there is enough cork at the top to easily open the bottle.

6. Tie a piece of 4-inch-long ribbon around the cork.

7. Dip the entire head of the cork into melted wax and allow to dry. Repeat the process three or four times until you have a good seal.
