Thicken Alfredo Sauce

Serve Alfredo sauce atop al dente noodles.

Alfredo sauce is a rich and creamy blend of butter, heavy cream, grated Parmesan cheese and a variety of flavorful ingredients such as garlic, basil and parsley. You can also enhance the white sauce with grilled chicken or sauteed mushrooms to create a filling meal. The tasty sauce is traditionally served over pasta, such as penne, farfalle and linquine. Since Alfredo recipes don't call for the use of flour or eggs, you'll need to thicken the sauce through the cooking technique or the with addition of other dairy products.

Instructions

1. Add 1 pint of heavy cream and 1/2 cup of butter into a medium saucepan. Bring the cream to a simmer over medium heat.

2. Simmer the cream and melted butter, stirring constantly, for five minutes.

3. Sprinkle a 3/4 cup of freshly grated Parmesan cheese into the sauce, along with salt, ground black pepper, dried parsley or basil, or garlic powder to taste.

4. Whisk the simmering sauce for one minute, or until it thickens. If the sauce is still too thin, add 2 tbsp. of cream cheese to the pan and whisk until the consistency is smooth and creamy.
