Deep Fry A Hot Pocket

Skip the boring fries and fry up a Hot Pocket in your deep fryer.

In the world of snack food, frying is one of the kings. Americans seem to deep fry almost everything. From state fairs to home kitchens, deep frying experiments abound. Hot Pockets are flavorful packages of ingredients encased in a dough. Usually baked in a microwave oven, hot pockets are well-suited to deep frying. The crust turns extremely crispy and the center ends up gooey and molten. For serious snack food cravings, a deep fried Hot Pocket often hits the spot.

Instructions

1. Place frozen Hot Pockets in the refrigerator to thaw for 4 hours. This will remove any ice crystals that may be on the pastries and will make it easier for the filling to cook.

2. Fill a deep fryer halfway with vegetable oil. Turn on the fryer and heat the oil to 350 degrees F.

3. Pat the defrosted Hot Pockets with paper towels to remove any lingering moisture. Use tongs to drop them in the hot oil.

4. Fry the Hot Pockets for 1 minute, then use the tongs to flip them over to the other side. Fry for 1 to 2 minutes longer, or until the crust is a deep golden brown.

5. Place the fried Hot Pocket on layers of paper towel to drain before eating.
