Spread Peanut Butter

Over 50 percent of peanuts end up being consumed as peanut butter.

Peanut butter is a healthy addition to nearly any diet. It contains approximately 4 grams of plant protein per tablespoon, according to The Peanut Institute, a non-profit organization that educates people about peanuts and promotes peanuts as a healthy food. While some peanut butter contains partially or fully hydrogenated oils, people with an aversion to those ingredients may purchase and consume natural peanut butter, which is slightly grittier but contains little more than pureed peanuts. You can add peanut butter to any number of sauces, baking recipes and snacks, but perhaps the simplest way of eating it is to spread it on a slice of bread or other flat food surface.

Instructions

1. Open the jar of peanut butter. Stir it with the butter knife if it appears to be separated into a solid lower layer with an oily layer on top, as is the case with many natural peanut butters.

2. Scoop a tablespoon-sized dollop of peanut butter onto the knife. Place the dollop on one edge of the surface to be covered. Bread, bagels, pancakes and waffles are several examples of foods that are commonly covered with peanut butter.

3. Spread the peanut butter gently over the surface of the food you are covering, keeping the curved portion of the butter knife pointed downward. Collect more peanut butter on the knife from the jar and use it to cover bare portions of the food.

4. Adjust the thickness of the peanut butter according to your personal preferences by placing more peanut butter on the food and smoothing it into an even coating. If you wish to remove some peanut butter, skim over the peanut butter's surface carefully with an empty knife to collect excess.
