While munching on the last pickle in the barrel, your senses reeling from juicy dill goodness, you may decide that your pickle barrel could actually make a nice addition to your kitchen. As you empty the last of the juice from the barrel, you realize there is a strong pickle odor that washing won't take away. If you want the barrel but can't stand the pickle smell long after the pickles are gone, a few remedies may fix this smelly problem.
Instructions
Use Baking Soda
1. Fill the container with warm water.
2. Add 3 tbsps. of baking soda for each qt. of warm water.
3. Allow the solution to sit in the container for at least 20 minutes.
4. Pour out the solution, and rinse the barrel well with clean water.
Use Lemons and Sunshine
5. Wipe fresh lemon juice all over the inside of the barrel.
6. Set the barrel outside on a sunny day.
7. Allow the barrel to soak in the sun for 3 to 4 hours.
8. Wash the barrel with warm soapy water.
