Bing cherry trees feature a popular cherry variety that grows well in most hardiness zones. The fruit from these trees is good for eating out of hand or for use in pies and other treats. Buying a Bing cherry to plant is an easy process---most buyers can simply visit a garden shop or retailer and get trees that are ready to go from store to the ground.
Instructions
1. Determine your hardiness zone (see link in Resources). While Bing cherry trees will grow well in zones 5 to 9, check to make sure your area is included in those zones. Most U.S. states fall into these zones, with the exception of states with extreme highs and lows in temperatures.
2. Find a spot for your Bing cherry tree. These trees require full sun and adaptable soil that is light and sandy and drains well. Choose a spot where the tree will have plenty of room to mature. Typical Bing cherry varieties grow to 30 to 35 feet. Dwarf varieties grow to 12 feet.
3. Consult your local nursery or garden store during the early part of your zone's growing season. This is the best time to find Bing cherry trees at stores; arborday.org recommends planting during the early part of the season. If your local shop doesn't carry Bing cherries, it can order the trees or offer suggestions as to where to find them.
4. If you can't find a tree locally, check online sites offer Bing cherry trees for sale. Arborday.org and Naturehills.com feature these trees and offer good tips for growing and planting.
