Rainbow cakes are extremely fun and unique, especially for kids. And who would have guessed they'd be so extremely easy to make?
Instructions
1. Mix your cake mix as directed on the back of the box. When you're finished with that, separate the mix evenly into six bowls.
2. Add food coloring. In one bowl add red food coloring. In one bowl add red and yellow to make orange. In one bowl add yellow food coloring. In one bowl add blue and yellow to make green. In one bowl add blue food coloring and in the last bowl add blue and red to make purple. Start with a little bit at a time and add more to make the color more vibrant. Don't forget to stir the food coloring in really well so that it isn't streaky.
3. Grease your pans! In the center of one of the cake pans, pour half of the red cake mix. Pour half of the orange in the center of the red, half of the yellow in the center of the orange, half of the green in the center of the yellow, half of the blue in the center of the green, and half of the purple in the center of the blue. Lightly shake the pan from side to side if needed to make sure the bottom of the pan is covered. The measurements do not have to be exact, but try to eye them as close as possible.
4. Pour the rest of the purple mix in the center of your other pan, the rest of the blue in the center of the purple, the rest of the green in the center of the blue, the rest of the yellow in the center of the green, the rest of the orange in the center of the yellow, and the rest of the red in the center of the orange. Again lightly shake the pan from side to side if necessary until the bottom is fully covered.
5. Follow the instructions to bake the cakes. When it's done, let the cakes cool and remove them from the pans. When cooled, frost the top of one of the cakes and stack the other on top to make a rainbow cake. You may have to slice the top off the bottom cake to make it flat so that the top one sits nicely.
