Columbus, Ohio is home to a surprisingly diverse number of ethnic restaurants. There are restaurants to suit nearly any palate, including those wanting honest-to-goodness, down-home, soul food. These restaurants include dishes like pan-fried onions, sweet potato pie, jambalaya, and "PO Boy" sandwiches.
New Harvest Cafe
The New Harvest Café started out as a community arts center, which expanded into an urban farming initiative, then blossomed into a café. They grow some of the food in their own garden, harvest it, and then serve it fresh in the café. Soul food selections include gravy, greens, meatloaf and an assortment of fried fish. They're open for lunch and dinner Tuesday to Saturday.

Creole Kitchen
Creole Kitchen is a take-out restaurant. It doesn't offer any sit-down seating unless you're related to Chef Henry Butcher, a good friend of his, or you have advance reservations. In that case, enjoy your table for eight.
But don't let the lack of seating stop you from enjoying the food. The menu is classic Bayou with seafood jambalaya, fried gator, fried catfish and red beans and rice. A catering service is also available.

Johnny Oaks PO Boy & Shrimp Shack
Johnny Oaks PO Boy & Shrimp Shack is not your typical sit-down eatery, either. Johnny operates out of a trailer parked in a lot near the Ohio State University campus. He specializes in "PO Boy" sandwiches, piling them high with loads of shrimp or sausages (which he makes himself) and plenty of vegetables. Johnny says, "If you like me, tell your friends. If not, keep your mouth shut." He also does specialty roasts for large parties.
