Most modern ovens are easy to clean if you follow a few simple instructions.
During the holidays, one of the most popular dishes is the baked sweet potato. This dish proves not so popular, though, if you spill the sweet potato juice inside the oven or if it boils over and bakes onto the oven surface. Your only option is to let the hot oven cool down as the sweet potato juice hardens into a caked-on crust. Getting the sweet potato juice out of a modern oven is not so hard, though, especially for a self-cleaning oven.
Instructions
Self-Cleaning Oven
1. Turn off the oven and let it sit for 15 minutes until it cools down. Take all the racks out of the oven and soak them in hot, soapy water for 20 minutes and then wipe the trays downs with a wet cloth to remove any sweet potato juice.
2. Close the oven door and lock it. Turn the dial on the oven to the "Clean" position.
3. Open the oven when the timer goes off and inspect it. Self-cleaning ovens vary in the time they take to clean, but they usually take a few hours. Wipe down the inside of the oven with a wet cloth to get out all leftover residue from cleaning. This will remove any sweet potato juice caked inside the oven.
Manual Cleaning Method
4. Turn off the oven and let it cool for 15 minutes. Remove all racks, close the oven door and preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Soak the racks in hot, soapy water for 15 minutes. Wipe the racks with a wet cloth after soaking to remove all sweet potato juice.
5. Turn the dial on the oven to the "Off" position, open the oven door and spray the inside with oven cleaner. Spray the entire bottom and sides of the oven and leave it for 15 minutes.
6. Wipe the inside of the oven with a damp cloth, rinsing it often until you wipe away all residue. Finish by wiping the oven with a dry towel.
