Decorative Halloween Cakes

Halloween is the perfect time of year to let culinary creativity flow. Making decorative Halloween cakes is a great way to add some homemade spark to the Halloween festivities. Use colored icings and imaginative designs to come up with spooky cakes that are as fun to make as they are to eat.

Ghosts

Make a ghost-inspired cake using two sheet cakes cut into a simple Pac-Man style ghosts shape. Using either white icing or marshmallow fluff ice between the layers and stack the two cakes. Ice the entire cake with your choice of icing. However, reserve a small portion and mix with either blue or black food coloring to construct two eyes.

Spiders

Cupcakes decorated with hand drawn spiders are a spooky delight. Make cupcakes as normal. Ice them with a white or similarly light color frosting. Draw a simple spider with chocolate piping on top of the white icing. Enhance the design with red piping for the eyes and a spider web background.

Creepy-Crawly

There is nothing spookier than a fresh grave overflowing with creepy insects. Made a traditional sheet cake and ice it to look like the grave site. Using a square cookie, such as a graham cracker, to fashion as a headstone. For decorative purposes it is possible to ice the graham cracker. Take gummy worms and plant them coming out of the gravesite.

Witch Hat

Witch hats cupcakes are easily made using waffle cones for the hat. This fun project consists of making regular cupcakes of your choice. Frost them as desired and place the cone into the frosting, tip up. Using a thick icing bag, fill in the brim of the hat. Chocolate-dipped cones look convincing with chocolate icing.

Pumpkin

Pumpkin cheesecake is a great Halloween treat. Pumpkin cheesecake can be decorated with candy pumpkins and green foliage for something the adults will love as much as the kids.
