Repair a Handbag Catch
At the check out you open your bag to pay, but it is a little difficult. Finally, after the entire line of people behind you begin to mumble, you manage to get it open--but then it won't close. The catch is broken. Don't throw it out without a fight to save its life.

Fix a Twist Catch
1. Determine whether the catch is a twist catch. The twist catch has two prongs on it that overlap to keep the bag shut. The spring catch has a prong and a catch.
2. Wrap a cloth around both of the prongs of the clasp, if the clasp is a twist catch.
3. Separate the prongs slightly with pliers. You want the prongs to be close enough together to stay closed but far enough apart so opening and closing the handbag isn't mission impossible.
4. Test the prongs and see if the catch is easy to open and yet securely held in place at other times. If the bag doesn't easily open for you then wrap one of the prongs in cloth and slightly bend outward. If it falls open without your help, pinch the prongs together slightly. Be careful not to do the procedure too many times as it weakens the metal.

5. Determine whether the catch is a spring catch. The spring catch has a prong and a catch.
6. See if the catch is meeting the prong. If it is, you probably need a new catch. If not, you might be able to fix it.
7. Bend the side of the frame in a little and see if the bag doesn't shut tightly after that. Adjust until it does. Put a new spring catch on your bag if this doesn't work.
