Plant Double Knockout Roses

Instructions


1. Decide on location. The newer varieties of Knockout Roses will grow well in the shade as well as full sun. So for that hard to grow plants place in your yard, the Double Knockout Rose is ideal. The Double Knockout Roses come in red or dark pink with a light pink in a semi-double rose.


2. Prepare the soil. Take a shovel or hoe and loosen the soil. Add mulch and fertilizer. Follow the directions on fertilizer bag. Soil should be turned and worked to about two feet into the ground. Now your bed is ready to plant your Double Knockout Roses


3. Figure the number of bushes you'll need. For best results you'll need a bush every 3 feet and a minimum of three bushes. This is one time that more is better. The bushes will grow approximately 3 feet wide and three to four feet tall. Buy healthy bushes. If it doesn't look healthy it usually isn't. Most online nurseries guaranteed their plants.


4. Dig a hole about 20 inches deep and 18 inches wide. Put about two inches of mulch in the bottom. Remove bushes from containers. Place bush in center of hole. Do not crowd roots. If hole is not big enough make bigger. Fill with mulch. Add water around the base of plant. Jiggle plant while watering to make sure air is out of soil. Ground around plant will sink. Fill with mulch so soil is even with ground. Pat down mulch so it will hold plant straight.
