Mircrowave A Baked Potato

Microwaving a baking potato is fast.

Baked potatoes, without a load of condiments, such as sour cream, bacon, butter and cheese, are low in fat and high in vitamins, such as potassium, vitamin C, protein and iron. They are often served as side dishes with meals. A large deterrent of cooking baked potatoes with a meal is that they can take up to hour to heat and soften in an oven. Microwaving baking potatoes takes much less time: about 10 minutes. You can prepare your potato alongside the rest of your meal.

Instructions

1. Run your potato under warm water and scrub as much dirt as you can off with a scrub sponge or brush.

2. Use a fork to puncture the potato several times all around. This will prevent it from bursting in the microwave.

3. Place your potato on a microwave safe dish and set the dish in the microwave. Cook the potato for five minutes on high power.

4. Flip the potato over carefully because it may be hot on one side. Cook it on high power again for five minutes. When it is done cooking, poke it with a fork. If the fork pierces the skin and the potato feels soft, it is finished. If the potato is still hard, continue to cook it on high for two minutes and perform the fork test until the potato feels soft.

5. Take the potato out of the microwave and let it stand for five to 10 minutes. Using a knife, carefully slice a slit down the center. Then, cut two diagonal lines across the center so your cuts resemble an asterisk.

6. Press in both ends of the potato so that the potato flesh is pushed away from the skin. Add your favorite toppings, such as 1 tbsp. of butter or margarine, 3 tbsp. of shredded cheddar cheese and a pinch of salt and pepper.
